Bay of Franks

Layers of History

While many places in Stronsay reveal how different generations of Stronsay inhabitants have contributed  to the island's heritage, we've chosen to highlight this particular spot. Take a moment to look around slowly. From where you are standing, remnants of Stronsay's past from its prehistoric days, the Viking era, the Medieval period, the nineteenth century, and the herring fishing days, to present-day farming and environmental approaches can all be seen.

To find out more about some of the different layers represented here, explore the different tabs found in the drop-down menu below "Bay of Franks" in the Menu or Navigation Bar.
